APM Funds Principals

Jon C. Sundt

Jon C. Sundt is a co-founder, President and CEO of APM Funds. Mr. Sundt has more than 23 years of experience in the alternative investment industry. As a founder of the Altegris Companies, he leads a team of more than 60 professionals dedicated to providing investors access to some of the world’s leading alternative investment managers.

Mr. Sundt began his career as an options trader in 1986. Prior to forming Altegris, Mr. Sundt served six years as Director of Managed Accounts and Senior Vice President of the Managed Investments Division of Man Financial, a subsidiary of the Man Group – the world’s largest hedge fund provider, based in London and listed on the FTSE 100. An expert in managed futures and alternative investment strategies, Mr. Sundt is widely quoted by leading financial media, such as CNBC and Business Week, and a variety of industry publications.

In his leadership role for the Altegris Companies, Mr. Sundt also champions the development of leading-edge productivity tools for wealth advisors and investors, applying the skills he gained while studying computer science and economics at the University of California, San Diego.

Mr. Sundt is an active member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and Vistage International. He is also the Founder and President of the Sundt Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to preventing substance abuse among today’s youth. Mr. Sundt actively participates in the Vistage Chief Executive Coaching Program, an organization and program designed to enable business leaders to gain fresh perspectives, test ideas, overcome obstacles and seize opportunities to generate results.

Mr. Sundt also serves as president and CEO of Altegris Investments. He is also a member of the Altegris Investment Committee, responsible for qualification, approval and on-going review of all investment strategies and managers on the Altegris platform.

Robert J. Amedeo

Robert Amedeo is a co-founder, director and vice president of APM Funds. Mr. Amedeo brings over 30 years of legal expertise in the financial industry to his role as head of Business Development for Altegris Investments.

Mr. Amedeo began his career at the SEC, serving in the Division of Enforcement. He then joined a Chicago law firm Abramson & Fox where he specialized in securities and commodities law. He was made partner and later served the firm as "Of Counsel". In 1985, Mr. Amedeo founded Rockwell Futures Management, Inc., now APM Funds. He acted as President of Rockwell Futures Management Inc. and its affiliate Rockwell Investments, Inc. (now Altegris Investments) until July 2002 when he cofounded the Altegris Companies with Jon Sundt and Matt Osborne.

Mr. Amedeo is the past chairman of an advisory committee to the North American Association of Securities Administrators (NAASA). He has acted as a member of the NFA Hearing Committee and is currently the Chairman of its CPO/CTA Advisory Committee.

Mr. Amedeo is a 1975 graduate of Northwestern University and received a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University in 1978.

Mr. Amedeo is a managing member of Altegris Capital and currently serves an Executive Vice President, Business Development, of Altegris Investments. Mr. Amedeo is also a member of the Altegris Investment Committee, responsible for qualification, approval and on-going review of all investment strategies and managers on the Altegris platform.

Matthew C. Osborne

Matthew C. Osborne is a co-founder, director and vice president of APM Funds. Prior to co-founding Altegris Investments, Mr. Osborne was Director of Research for the Managed Investments Division of Man Financial. Mr. Osborne had a 12-year career with a preeminent family office in his native New Zealand. In his role as Investment Manager, he was responsible for formulating investment policies and implementing a global asset allocation program that specialized in alternative investment strategies such as hedge funds and managed futures. He also gained significant trading expertise in foreign currencies, stocks, fixed income, global futures and options. In his role as Corporate Treasurer for the family's manufacturing company, he was responsible for risk management in interest rates and foreign currencies as well as debt portfolio management.

Mr. Osborne actively participates in the Vistage Key Executives Business Coaching Program, a 14,500+ member organization that serves as the world’s foremost executive leadership association.

Mr. Osborne is a managing member of Altegris Capital. Mr. Osborne is also a member of the Altegris Investment Committee, responsible for qualification, approval and on-going review of all investment strategies and managers on the Altegris platform.

Richard Pfister

Dick Pfister, CAIA™, is a director and vice president of APM Funds. Mr. Pfister began his career on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange as a technical analyst and trader. After trading in the currency and stock index futures markets for several years, he managed the Global Macro CTA Trade Desk for Dean Witter Reynolds. Later, he joined Man Financial, leading the growth of International Traders Research Inc. (now a member of the Altegris Companies) to its preeminent role of providing dedicated managed futures data services. In June 1998, Mr. Pfister was appointed Institutional Research Executive at the Man Financial Managed Investments Division, a role he held until joining Altegris in 2002.

Mr. Pfister is an inaugural member of Chartered Alternative Investment Association and earned the first-ever Chartered Alternative Investments Analyst (CAIA) designation in September 2003. The CAIA is a specific designation that distinguishes individuals who are best qualified in dealing with alternative investments. Mr. Pfister actively participates in the Vistage Key Executives Business Coaching Program, a 14,500+ member organization that serves as world’s foremost executive leadership association

Mr. Pfister graduated from the University of San Diego with a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance in July 1993.

Mr. Pfister is a managing member of Altegris Capital and serves as a Director and Executive Vice President of Altegris. He is also a member of the Altegris Investment Committee, responsible for qualification, approval and on-going review of all investment strategies and managers on the Altegris platform.

Ken McGuire

With nearly 20 years of experience in developing and managing operating platforms in support of world-class alternative investment managers, Ken McGuire leads the continued development of operational capabilities within the Altegris group of companies. As Chief Operating Officer of Altegris, Mr. McGuire directs the automation, investment reporting and back office integration Altegris provides wealth managers and investment advisors. Mr. McGuire also brings unique expertise and industry experience to the Altegris Premier Managers platform, ensuring effective, transparent transactions with critical operating partners responsible for fund automation, administration, legal, audit and accounting, as well as cash management and third party custody of client assets. Prior to joining Altegris, Mr. McGuire served as Managing Director of Product Management for single manager hedge funds at BNY Mellon Alternative Investment Services, as part of the team that drove the unit to become the industry’s third largest, single manager hedge fund administrator. Mr. McGuire entered the alternative investment industry in 1990 at Goldman Sachs within the Hedge Fund Strategies Group, where he served as Co-Head of Operations, Finance and Technology. He was also Chairman of the Operations Committee and a member of the Management Policy Committee. Mr. McGuire graduated magna cum laude from Hofstra University with a degree in Computer Science/ Mathematics and received his MBA with a concentration in Management from Adelphi University.

Allen H. Cheng

Allen Cheng, Managing Director, Research and Investments, joined Altegris in 2008. Mr. Cheng brings 18 years of hedge fund and alternative investment experience. Before joining Altegris, Mr. Cheng served as Managing Director, Head of Fund of Funds Portfolio Management at Bank of America’s Alternative Investment Group. In this position, Mr. Cheng built and directed the hedge fund portfolio investment team and additionally oversaw numerous hedge fund products across diverse strategies. He has significant experience in the alternative investment industry, particularly in the area of identifying, selecting, and monitoring hedge fund managers across multiple investment disciplines. Mr. Cheng’s previous experience includes responsibility as Managing Director, Head of Research for Optima Fund Management, an investment advisory firm specialized in alternative investments. He began his alternative investment career at Moore Capital Management managing asset allocation and research for hedge fund multi-manager products. Mr. Cheng earned his BA in Finance from the University of Maryland and MBA from the University of Michigan.

Lara Magnusen

With four years of experience on the Altegris research team, Lara Magnusen, CAIASM, currently serves as Vice President of Research and Investments. Ms. Magnusen previously served as Director of Manager Research for Cabezon Capital LLC / Borton Hermeneutics LLC, responsible for monitoring and developing seeded managers. Additional experience includes her tenure as an Associate Portfolio Manager and Director of Investor Relations at Helix Investment Partners, a capital structure arbitrage hedge fund, as well as a several years as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs. Ms. Magnusen holds a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. She also has an M.B.A. from the Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego. She holds the designation of CAIASM.

John P. Scarcella

John P. Scarcella joined Altegris in 2008 as Senior Vice President, National Sales Director, bringing 24 years of experience in the organization and marketing of alternative investments, including Managed Futures, Real Estate Investment Trusts and partnerships as well as equipment leasing investments. Prior to joining Altegris, Mr. Scarcella was Vice President National Marketing for Steben & Company, responsible for the development of the broker dealer distribution network for the firm’s managed futures funds. Previously, Mr. Scarcella served as Vice President of National Accounts for Lincoln Financial Distributors. Before this, Mr Scarcella was Senior Vice President of ATEL Securities Corporation, responsible for all sales, marketing, and due diligence efforts for ATEL’s public and private equipment leasing investment offerings. Previously, Mr. Scarcella was the Director of Investor Relations and Marketing for Landsing Capital Corporation, responsible for the marketing of real estate limited partnerships and REITS. Mr. Scarcella received his Bachelors Degree in Finance from Santa Clara University in 1983 and his M.B.A. with a concentration in marketing from Santa Clara University in 1992. He is a licensed commodities broker and direct investment principal.

Peter H. Cunningham

Peter H. Cunningham, Vice President, Alternative Investment Consultant, brings six years of experience marketing alternative investment products, in addition to broad-based experience in trading and operations. Peter joined Altegris from Steben and Company, where he served as a Regional Vice President. Previously, he served as Director of Marketing for ClaraVista Capital Management, a Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA). Peter gained trading and operational experience with Goldman Sach’s Hedge Fund Strategy Group rising to Execution Trader on the foreign exchange desk. Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia.

Adam Gallegos

Adam Gallegos, Vice President, and Alternative Investments Consultant, brings over 15 years of experience in the industry to the Altegris team and is responsible for business development of the broker/dealer channel in the Western U.S. region. Mr. Gallegos joined Altegris from Kensington Investment Group, where he was responsible for business development and promotion of Kensington's investment products, as well as overseeing marketing and wholesaling efforts in the Western U.S. regions. Prior to joining Kensington, Mr. Gallegos was the Director of Business Development at Getrelevant.com, an internet marketing firm. Mr. Gallegos began his career in financial services at Barclays Global Investors. Along with his financial services experience, including analyst training with J.P. Morgan Chase, Gallegos has also been involved in entrepreneurial endeavors in the golf industry. Mr. Gallegos received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from California State University, Sacramento, in 1992.

Vance Barse

Vance Barse joined Altegris as Associate Vice President in 2007. Mr. Barse has eight years of professional experience and worked most recently at Pyrysys, a behavioral healthcare firm in La Jolla, CA. In his role as Business Administrator and Corporate Officer, he led a seven member team in managing finance, marketing, operations, and human resources. Prior to Pyrysys, Mr. Barse gained experience as general manager of Allied Counseling Group in Frederick, MD where he was responsible for profit and loss management and strategic sales and marketing initiatives. Mr. Barse graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neurophysiology and Neurobiology and was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow.

Eric Nielsen

Eric Nielsen brings over eight years of asset management experience to the Altegris team. Prior to joining Altegris in 2008 as Associate Vice President, Mr. Nielsen served as an Investment Consultant at Fidelity Investments, responsible for designing client portfolios as well as consulting clients on retirement income by leveraging prudent tax planning and asset allocations. Previously, Mr. Nielsen worked as a Trading Associate for Chicago-based Envestnet, where he was responsible for directing and executing trades in supporting various wrap account trading platforms. Mr. Nielsen also gained experience as an Operations Portfolio Analyst for ABN AMRO Asset Management (now part of Fortis North America). Mr. Nielsen graduated from Buffalo State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics.

Anne Peterson

Anne Petersen brings over eight of years experience in sales, customer service and project management to the Altegris team. Ms. Petersen began at Moore Wallace as a Sales Representative managing key accounts for a leading international printing firm. She went on to become a Client Financial Analyst with Citibank. Following her role with Citibank, Ms. Petersen was an Internal Wholesaler with Ridgewood Capital, where she worked with the top producing sales team, before joining Altegris. Ms. Petersen obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University.
